How Do You Deal with Pet Waste?

Our top question about artificial grass…. how do you handle pet waste?

For pet owners, artificial grass just makes sense. No more muddy paws or yellow spots. All of our turf options are pet-friendly, meaning they are durable, made with non-toxic materials, and free from harmful chemicals. One of the most popular questions we get asked every day- but how do you clean it up?

The Answer is Easy!

Another thing that makes artificial grass so great is that it’s easy to clean up!  With pets, the process is simple, scoop up solid pet waste promptly, liquid waste typically drains through the turf, leaving minimal residue. You can simply hose down the area to remove any remaining odors or residue. Our pet turf systems use an antimicrobial infill, which helps reduce bacteria often associated with pet waste, which helps keep your turf clean and smelling fresh.  (If you aren’t sure what infill is, learn more about the different types of infills here!)

To further extend the life of your turf, an occasional deep cleaning would be beneficial, especially for families with large dogs or multiple dogs. To do this, simply take a mixture of 2:1 water and vinegar and spray the area thoroughly. You can also use a small amount of dishwashing liquid or other mild soap. Spray the area down, let sit for 5-10 minutes, and then hose down with water.  Brush the area with a large push broom, to keep fibers standing upright and evenly distributed.

That’s it!

Extra Helpful Hints

  • Inspect for Damage: Regularly inspect your artificial grass for any damage or signs of wear, such as tears, loose seams, or lifted edges. Repair any issues promptly to prevent further damage.
  • If your pet has a favorite spot where they tend to urinate, consider training them to use a designated area. This can help reduce the concentration of urine in one spot.
  • Avoid using chemicals or pesticides on artificial grass, as these can be harmful to pets.
