Why Infill Matters
Why does infill matter when choosing artificial grass?Ā
While researching artificial grass, you have probably come across the word “infill” through much of your research. What exactly is infill and why do you need it? Infill is a necessary part of artificial grass installation for several reasons. The infill provides weight to the turf to help hold it in place. Depending on the type of grass installed, 1-4 lbs per square foot of infill will be installed. In addition to the weight, infill gives ballast to the turf, helping the blades stand up. Lastly, it gives the backing added protection from UV rays.
How do you decide which infill is best for you?Ā
There are many different infills on the market today, from silica sand to rubber, how do you know which infill is best for your application? Understanding the differences between infills will help you make the best decision for your artificial grass installation.

Silica Sand
Silica is the most commonly used infill for artificial grass applications. This high-quality sand doesn’t have some of the additional features of other infills but it does exactly what infill is supposed to do- add weight, ballast, and protection.
Envirofill Infill
Envirofill infill is infused with MicrobanĀ® anti-microbial protection, which reduces pet odors and is proven to disrupt the bacterial process that results in unwanted odors. This infill is one of the safest on the markets, scientifically proven to be free of toxins.
TCool Infill
TCool infill is also an antimicrobial infill that is non-toxic, non-hazardous, and helps keep your artificial grass cooler. Using evaporative cooling technology from hydration including rainfall, irrigation, or humidity, TCool reduces the artificial grass surface temperatures by 30-50 degrees.
Rubber Crumb Infill
Rubber Crumb infill is created from recycled tires. Rubber crumb had previously been questioned about the safety of use in artificial grass applications but it has since been proven to be a safe option for artificial grass infills. It is an affordable option and adds additional cushion to your artificial grass.
